Biography

Rose E. McGinn was born on February 8th, 1887, to John McGinn and Isabella Healey in the township of Nichol, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. She was the 7th child (3rd daughter) of 12 children. She lived with her family in Nichol until they moved to the city of Guelph before 1901. In 1902, the McGinn family moved to Glenavon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Between 1906 and 1910 Rose moved to Deerfield, Montana, USA and worked as a servant in the household of Charles M. Huffine.

Between 1910 and 1914 Rose met her husband, Joseph Edward Schulte (born July 27th, 1885, in Mankato, Minnesota), and they were married some time around 1914 in either Montana or Saskatchewan. Their first-born son Raymond was born in Canada (Moose Jaw or Swift Current, Saskatchewan) on May 5th, 1915. Their second son, Clayton, was born in Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana, on December 21st, 1916. The family lived in Great Falls, Montana until at least 1920.

Rose Schulte died between 1920 and 1930, although her death was likely closer to 1920. In her son Clayton’s obituary, it mentions her death occurring in 1918, however, she still appears on the 1920 US Federal Census, so this date cannot be correct.

After Rose’s death, Joseph E. Schulte and their sons moved back to Mankato, Minnesota, to live with Joseph’s family: his mother Elizabeth, sister Rosalia, and brothers Edmund and Simon. Joseph was a mechanic and eventually owned his own auto repair shop, Schultes Auto Body & Paint Shop, where he worked with his sons. It is unlikely that Joseph remarried - as of the 1940 US Federal Census, he was still unmarried (widowed), living with his sons, his mother, and his sister Rosalia. Joseph died on December 29th, 1959, in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.

Raymond Schulte married Virginia Delores Brenaum on October 2nd, 1942, in Blue Earth, Minnesota and they divorced on October 2nd, 1972, in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Raymond and Virginia had at least one daughter, Nancy Jo Schulte, born on September 9th, 1959, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Raymond died on May 18th, 2000, in Burnsville, Dakota County, Minnesota.

Clayton Schulte married Patricia Wheeler on April 30th, 1945 and they had two children together: Jane (married Mike LaMont) and Barbara (married Henry Greve). Clayton served for 2 years in the US Army during World War II and later worked at and owned Schultes Auto Body and Paint Shop. He died on November 24th, 2006, at the age of 89 in Mankato, Minnesota.
